GP Net Earnings Publication

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Poole Town Surgery in the last financial year was £42,082.40 before tax and National Insurance. This is for five part time GPs.

GP Funding

Many GP practices such as Poole Road Medical Centre are independent small businesses, a detail often not made clear to the public.

Each year GP practices are funded on a payment per patient basis. In real terms this means that this practice receives around £136 per patient for the whole year.

From this figure we need to pay our Doctors, Nurses and other staff, the costs of running the building, such as gas, electricity, cleaning, gardening and any repairs and work required, the cost of all the medical supplies and equipment used in patient’s care, insurance, stationery, postage, telephones and the hundreds of other small items that go into looking after our patients. This represents a real challenge.
